Top Temps Personnel provides recruitment opportunities for Heavy Duty car drivers. To acquire the HGV Licence, you are required to successfully complete special training and pass a theory test. HGV Licence holders typically work for logistics companies as professional drivers. To be eligible for a HGV Licence, you need to be above the age of 18, hold a full Driver CPC. CPC stands for Certificate of Professional Competence. It is required if you operate all commercial vehicle above 3.5 tonnes.

  • Category C1: This first LGV licence class is for the smallest of commercial vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes. These are typically smaller box trucks, commercial vans, and horseboxes.
  • Category C1+E: Driving a commercial vehicle between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes, with a trailer of up to 750 kg in tow, requires a Cat C1+E licence.
  • Category C: A Category C licence is designed for large commercial vehicles in excess of 7.5 tonnes MAM. Ideal to drive an articulated lorry, tipper truck or bin lorry, for example. This is the most popular LGV licence class we train for.
  • Category C+E:  This LGV licence class enables you to drive the largest commercial vehicles on the road with the exception of coaches and buses (they require a Category D). This includes vehicles in excess of 7.5 tonnes with trailers in tow.

Each of these licence classes involves training specific to the vehicles in question. The Licence enables you to operate heavy duty vehicles, such as lorries and trucks. Typical work includes working in logistics as a driver. Individuals with the HGV Licence are in high demand and should face no issues with finding work – especially with the rise of e-commerce and online shopping!

HGV are Heavy Goods Vehicle and LGV stands for Large Goods Vehicle.  HGV, LGV are the European Union (EU) term for any truck with a gross combination mass (GCM) of over 3,500 kilograms (7,716 lb).
